  • What should I expect from your league?
    Big Kid Basketball is a fun and playful basketball league that kids love! It is a fun basketball experience for kids and adults. Our full staff works very hard to make sure your child feels welcome and included.
  • Is this a competitive league?
    No, Big Kid Basketball is a fun and playful league with age-appropriate basketball rules. Scoreboards are used and score is kept to provide a real game-like feel. Our main focuses, however, are having fun, teaching basketball, and teaching sportsmanship. Big Kids are there to make sure everyone has a fun basketball experience!
  • What are the dates, times, and costs?
    Big Kid Basketball offers a spring session at Mariemont Elementary School 6750 Wooster Pike, Cincinnati, OH 45227 on Saturdays. Fall session starts on September 9th and ends on September 30th. Times will vary. Our earliest practice will start at 8:45 am. Cost including tax is $65 per child.
  • Do you include progressive learning for different skill levels?
    Yes, Big Kids will teach age-appropriate skills to the group as well as work one-on-one with individuals always using fun basketball games and drills.
  • Do you incorporate sportsmanship?
    Sportsmanship is a big part of Big Kid. Our program incorporates sportsmanship into all aspects of the day so that everyone feels included and has a fun basketball experience.
  • How long does the program run for?
    We currently offer a four-week program, one day per week on Saturday mornings and afternoons.
  • What does the Big Kid do?
    The Big Kid's job is to coach all players on the court along with the referee. The Big Kid is in charge. Sometimes, a Big Kid plays in the game in order to help the overall flow of the game and help keep it fun for everyone. Big Kids lead by example in basketball knowledge, sportsmanship, and attitude.
  • Are there practices and games?
    Yes, practice takes place before the game and lasts 30 minutes. A game is played immediately after practice and lasts approximately 30-40 minutes depending on age group. 4-6 year olds play 6 minute quarters. 7-9 year olds play 7 minute quarters. 10-13 year olds play 8 minute quarters. All games have a 2 minute halftime and a running clock except for the final minute.
  • What should my child bring?
    We ask that kids come ready to play basketball with appropriate running shoes and athletic wear. Kids can bring their own basketballs but Big Kid uses its own during most practices and all games. Big Kid provides all kids with a Big Kid t-shirt to keep and we use reversable mesh jerseys during games that are returned.
  • How often are games played in your league?
    Games are played one day per week on Saturdays. Our game times start at 9 am and games end by 3:30 pm.
  • How many times a week will my child play?
    Each child will have one practice and play one game per week.
  • How long are the games in your league?
    4-6 year olds play 6 minute quarters. 7-9 year olds play 7 minute quarters. 10-13 year olds play 8 minute quarters. All games have a 2 minute halftime and a running clock except for the final minute.
  • How many kids are needed per basketball game?
    We play 5 on 5 games.
  • Can basketball be played at all ages?
    Yes, basketball can be played at all ages. We have three age divisions: 4-6 yr old, 7-9 yr old, and 10-13 yr old.
  • Is it too early to start playing basketball under 5?
    It depends on the kid. If they have any interest in playing basketball, we offer a fun, playful environment for kids to start practicing and playing games. Practices include fun age-appropriate drills led by the Big Kid and referee. Games are fun and playful for all age groups.
  • How long are the games in your league?
